Commission entry types and statuses

Every amount a partner is owed, or that is taken back from them, is a row in the commission ledger. Rows are never edited or deleted: a correction is a new row beside the one it corrects. This page lists every kind of row, the label the screens show for it, and when it appears, then every status a row can have.

You see these rows under Commissions, in a conversion's What it paid card, in a payout's What this is made of, and in the partner's portal. The Server API, outbound webhooks and exports carry the type's code in a type field.

The What it paid card on a refunded conversion, listing an Earned row and its Reversal with their statuses and amounts.

Types

Code Label on screen When it appears Amount
earned Earned A sale credited to a partner matched a commission plan. How it was worked out shows the arithmetic, for example "20% of USD 299.00". Positive
fee Fee A creator's agreed fee for collaboration work, as opposed to a share of a sale. Positive
bonus Bonus A one-off payment: a recommendation you accepted, a creator passing a collaboration's revenue target, or a referral reward paid in money. See How bonuses work. Positive
adjustment Adjustment Recalculate… in a row's More menu, or Recalculate 2 selected on several ticked rows, found the sale is now worth a different amount ("Recalculated: …"), or a sale moved away from a partner was moved back to them ("This sale was moved back to this partner."). Positive or negative
reversal Reversal A refund, dispute or cancelled order took back the commission or its share ("Reversed because the sale was refunded.", "Reversed in part: …"); somebody chose Cancel commission… from a row's More menu (their reason); the sale was moved to another partner ("Reversed because this sale was moved to another partner."); or a recruiter's share went with the commission it was a share of ("Taken back with the commission it was a share of."). See Refunds and reversals. Negative
opening Brought over from your old platform A balance a partner was owed on your previous platform, which you confirmed during a migration. Refficks did not work it out. Positive
returned Payment returned by the bank A paid payout's money came back. It nets that payout's paid rows to zero without touching them. Negative
owed_again Owed again after a returned payment The same commission, owed again after its payment came back, so the next run pays it. Positive
recruiter_share Share of a recruit's commission A partner's share of what a partner they recruited earned, paid by you on top, for example "10% of Sam R.'s commission of USD 59.80." Positive
payout Payout A settlement row. Refficks does not write this type today.

On Commissions, How it was worked out shows a row's description when it has one, and its label when it does not.

Statuses

Status on screen Code What it means Paid in the next run?
Pending pending Waiting for a person to approve or reject it. A row that follows its commission (a partial refund's reversal, a recruiter's share) says "Approved or rejected with its commission". No
Approved approved Payable. Yes, unless the partner is left out for a reason the payout preview shows
Rejected rejected Decided not owed. Counts toward nothing, and the conversion's What it paid card leaves it out. No
Reversed reversed Taken back before it was paid. The commission and its reversal both read Reversed and cancel out. On Commissions, the commission's own row says why under its status: "Cancelled:" and the reversal's description, such as "Cancelled: Reversed because the sale was refunded." No
Paid paid Settled by a payout marked paid. A paid commission keeps saying Paid even after a refund: the reversal beside it is Approved and comes off the partner's next payout, and the commission's row reads "Taken back:" and the reversal's description. Already paid
Came back (paid) Shown instead of Paid on a returned row.

Which status each kind of row starts in

Row Starts as
Earned, fee, bonus, adjustment, opening Pending
Recruiter share Whatever the commission it is a share of is: Pending beside a pending one, Approved beside an approved one
Owed again Approved
Returned Paid
Reversal of an unpaid commission (full refund or Cancel commission…) Reversed, and the commission becomes Reversed
Reversal of a paid commission (a clawback) Approved
Reversal of part of a pending commission Pending, decided with the commission
Reversal of part of an approved or paid commission Approved

Only earned commissions can approve themselves on a plan's timer. Every other kind of row waits for an owner or admin. See Approve commissions.
